How to Get a Better Credit Score

We understand. It happens. Most of us have hit hard times every now and then. Unfortunately, those hard times often show up on our credit report. A couple of late bills can really impact a credit score. But that doesn’t mean you can’t get that score back up. There are ways to raise your credit score. OurFinance Managers love to teach our Lynn customers about how to get a better credit score. So, if you’re trying to figure out how to boost your credit score, you’re in for a treat. Read our tips to increase a credit score below.

How to Boost Your Credit Score

Learning how to get a better credit score doesn’t take a degree in Economics. There are a number of ways to raise your credit score, and several of our Burlington customers have done just that. Check out these tips to increase your credit score:

  • Pull your credit report and look it over. Every tutorial on how to get a better credit score starts with this step. That’s because you can’t fix what you don’t know about. You may even find mistakes on your report. Be sure to dispute any inaccuracies.
  • Accept a credit card offer, and don’t run up the balance. An open credit account with a lot of unused available credit is one way to raise a credit score.
  • Open a secured credit card. Customers who can’t get approved for a conventional credit car can usually open a secured credit card, which is secured by a bank deposit. Even this kind of credit account can positively impact your credit score, as long as you pay the bill on time.
  • Pay your bills promptly. Late payments can negatively impact a credit score.
  • Dispute old issues on your report. Negative issues like unpaid bills or even bankruptcies aren’t supposed to stay on your credit report forever. Find out what the time limit is for any negative issue your report, and dispute any that have passed their time limit.
  • Pay down as much debt as you can. Credit accounts that have reached their credit limit or have gotten close to doing so will negatively impact a credit score. The more unused credit, the better.
  • Clear up collection accounts and late bills. Get these negative events off of your credit report. This is a necessary step for anyone wondering how to boost their credit score.
