Honda North Hosted a "Staycation" Blood Drive June 9, 2010

With summer approaching and vacation on everyone's mind, Honda North planned a "Staycation in Danvers" themed blood drive. Honda North, a member of the International Cars, Ltd. family of dealerships, was proud to host the blood drive on Wednesday, June 9, 2010. We had 36 presenting donors and 31 units of blood collected!  We also had 7 first time donors-which is above average for any blood drive!

All presenting donors had the chance to spin the prizewheel to win Honda North car details, oil changes, and other great prizes from historic Danvers locations and area establishments. Donors won summer essentials like beach towels, ball caps, golf umbrellas & stadium blankets. Those attending the blood drive were treated to lunch, courtesy of Costco. Throughout the month of June, all presenting donors at area Red Cross blood drives will be entered to win a Staycation Package raffle prize from the American Red Cross, valued up to $350.

"Blood Drives have become a tradition at Honda North, and our employee owners are proud to help the Red Cross provide life-saving services to our community," said Richard Collins, general manager of Honda North.

All over New England, two thousand units of blood must be collected each day to meet the basic needs of hospitals in the area.  The only source of blood is a healthy volunteer donor, and patients must rely on the generosity of neighbors to make sure they will have the blood they need.  Each unit of whole blood has the potential to save three lives and a single aphaeresis donation can provide as many platelets as five whole blood donations.

For more information on giving blood, contact the American Red Cross at 1-800-RED-CROSS or log onto www.redcrossblood.org.
